INSPIRE Portsmouth for the MRC

Integrating Support for Public Involvement in Research at Portsmouth for the Medical Research Council

We are pleased to launch a new funding scheme that will support researchers to work with people and communities in the development of research proposal ideas, which they can submit to the Medical Research Council (MRC) for funding. This scheme is open to researchers at any career stage, including post-graduate research students. Applications must be submitted by a University of Portsmouth researcher, however collaborative bids with external partners are welcome and encouraged.

This scheme supports University of Portsmouth researchers and their collaborators in co-creating high-quality research proposals for the MRC. By providing targeted funding for recruitment, facilitation, and public member time and expenses, we help you integrate public voices into your project’s design. Please note, academic time is not covered and projects need to fall within the MRC remit.

  • Single-investigator awards: Up to £500
  • Multi-centre collaborations: Up to £800

Join us for a funding launch workshop on Monday 9 February 2026 (1 - 3pm). You can join either in-person or online, to discover more about the scheme and to start shaping your thinking with members of the public.
