Overview

Bringing together members of the WICIR Network to align around a shared vision and strengthen connections across the region.

The WICIR Network

The Wessex Intensive Care Innovation and Research (WICIR) Network is a collaborative, multidisciplinary community committed to strengthening and connecting intensive care research across Wessex.

We provide a supportive environment where allied health professionals, pharmacists, students, health care scientists and data science analysts can shape research priorities, build skills and lead innovation together. By harmonising ICU data, coordinating multi‑site studies and offering strategic support for study design, ethics and funding, WICIR enables the generation of high‑quality evidence that informs clinical decision‑making and improves patient care.

Our vision is to cultivate a dynamic, inclusive research ecosystem that empowers members to explore, lead and influence the future of intensive care research through shared infrastructure, trainee‑driven protocols, broad professional engagement and sustainable research frameworks that address real‑world clinical challenges across the region

WICIR in-person meetings

The Wessex Intensive Care Research (WICIR) Network meetings bring together allied health professionals, pharmacists, students, health care scientists, data science analysts and partners from across the region to build a collaborative, inclusive community focused on advancing intensive care research.

These meetings create a shared space to connect, exchange ideas and collectively shape the future direction of intensive care research in Wessex. They provide opportunities to:

  • Build meaningful connections between members and strengthen a shared sense of purpose and values
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, relationship building and cross‑site collaboration
  • Share opportunities for project development, trainee involvement, education workstreams, funding and emerging initiatives as they arise
  • Through presentations, discussion and structured networking, members will work together to develop a dynamic, connected and sustainable research ecosystem across Wessex Intensive Care.

Purpose

This meeting brings together members of the Wessex Intensive Care Research Network to align around a shared vision and strengthen connections across the region.

The meeting aims to build a common understanding of what a dynamic, connected research ecosystem looks like in practice, while fostering knowledge sharing, collaboration and cross‑site relationships.

Through presentations, discussion, reflection and opportunities to network, the meeting will:

  • Test and refine the proposed network vision and objectives
  • Identify shared priorities and gaps
  • Spark project development and collaboration
