Network:

Wessex Intensive Care Innovation and Research (WICIR)

The WICIR network brings together clinicians, trainees, allied health professionals, and wider stakeholders from multiple centres

Who we are

We offer a supportive environment where voices from all corners of multidisciplinary care can shape the future of research and practice. By building bridges across organisations, WICIR is working towards a more connected and impactful research culture.

The network is focused on enabling high-impact research through shared data, coordinated studies, and strategic support. Our members work collectively to generate robust evidence to help guide clinical decision-making and drive the adoption of innovation.

WICIR is all about capacity-building: strengthening research skills, expanding opportunities and accelerating improvements in patient care. We want to use research to drive improvements across the region.

Our vision

We want to cultivate a dynamic, connected research ecosystem that enables network members to explore, lead and influence the future of intensive care research in Wessex by:

  • Harmonising and harnessing ITU data across Wessex institutions for insight and preparedness
  • Establishing a regional coordinated platform for impactful research design, grant application and delivery
  • Supporting the development of ethically approved multi-site protocols driven by trainees
  • Engaging a broad community of allied health professionals to deliver and shape research and innovation, workforce and delivery, in the region
  • Developing sustainable, accessible research frameworks that address real-world clinical challenges.

Governance

The network is guided by a steering committee, representing organisations and members of the multi-disciplinary teams involved in intensive care research and innovation across Wessex. This committee is responsible for strategic planning, oversight of network activities and promotion of equitable participation.

Membership

Membership is open to clinicians, trainees, researchers, allied health professionals and others involved in intensive care research and innovation. Participation is inclusive and voluntary, with expectations for collaborative contribution and ethical conduct.
